Aroona Dam
The dam was constructed in 1955, and for more than two decades, it stood as the main source of water in Leigh Creek before other dams were built. In the year 1996, the dam was made a sanctuary, and every form of fishing or boating activities in the dam has been prohibited. To date, the dam still supplies the people of Leigh Creek.
It would be a spectacle to behold the oldest water supply dam in Leigh Creek. Over the years, various developments have been made to make it a site for tourist attraction. Pathway has been created so that people would be able to move freely and behold the sight.
Ochre Pits
This is a quarry from which the native people usually derived their coloured pigment ochre. If you move close to the locals, they will teach you the process of pounding up the material. They use this for colouring during their festive celebrations.
Blinman
You might also love to visit Blinman, a not-so-big town seated in the heart of the highest town in the region. If you want to know about the customs of the Flinders Ranges, you should visit Blinman. You can also visit mine. It also has a famous cemetery of notable figures such as William Keckwick.
Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary
Not so far from Leigh Creek is the famous wilderness sanctuary of Arkaroola. If you are a lover of birds, you visit this tourist centre. It houses more than 150 species of birds. It also has a ridgetop escapade. This site is what can be dubbed nature at its best. It also has mountains which you can climb; while this tourist centre is unique in that it has well-furnished apartments that lodge tourists.
Leigh Creek Coalfields
You can also visit the Old charcoal mine. Although for safety reasons, you may not be allowed to enter into the coalfield, you would be allowed to take pictures.
Why this place is worth visiting is because it is one of the largest coal supplying mines in Australia, and it also provides not less than 35 per cent of the electricity generated in Southern Australia.
Copley
This is an antique railway station. It was built in1891 and still stands to date. This site also has a park, and accommodation is also available when you visit this site.
